Help with Sesh

You need an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later.

1. Download the beta from the homepage, open the DMG and drag Sesh into Applications. Open the copy in Applications, then eject the installer. Keep one installed copy.
2. Follow setup: keyboard access, screenshots, then the optional dictation model and microphone. Each skip button explains what stays unavailable.
3. Try the guided practice with the real panel. Help → Set up Sesh revisits setup, and Help → How to use Sesh replays practice; you can practice silently and skip speaking. The Sesh menu can start and finish sessions without global keyboard access.

Accessibility enables Sesh’s global shortcuts and pasting. You do not need to enable Input Monitoring separately when Accessibility is working.

Screen Recording allows Sesh’s still-screenshot capture. Microphone is needed only for dictation. Connecting a screenshot folder may ask for access to that folder.

Return to Sesh after changing access. Status refreshes automatically. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen, choose Restart Sesh and continue in setup. Your place is saved; finish any open session before restarting.

If keys do nothing, check for another dictation app using the same trigger. Pause its listener or change Sesh’s key in Settings → Keyboard. Secure Keyboard Entry in another app can also hide keys from Sesh.

1. Start typing. Open the page you want to review. Triple-tap Fn with keyboard access enabled, or choose a typed session from the Sesh menu. Write “Update this page:” and the change you want.
2. Add a reference. Hold Command and press C twice to add selected text from another app. Ordinary Copy stays separate unless automatic text capture is enabled. With screenshot access, double-tap Command, drag around the area you need, then release. Escape cancels selection. Continue adding comments in your draft.
3. Finish at your destination. Click the intended app’s text field, then tap Fn. Keep it focused while processing and pasting finish. Sesh never presses Send. Finishing with the Sesh editor focused copies the result instead.
4. Review before sending. Check the text and screenshots. Image delivery depends on the destination; ordinary Copy and terminal delivery use local image paths.

These are the default keys. Settings → Keyboard shows your configured keys, and Help → Keyboard shortcuts opens the guide in Sesh. The website shortcut guide shows defaults.

Download speech recognition once

Open Settings → Voice. Choose Download model and enable dictation during setup. The recommended multilingual model is about 485 MB, plus about 1 MB for speech detection. Enable the microphone, then wait for Ready. Downloading and preparing do not record audio. Speech recognition works offline once prepared; typing works without this setup.

Start a new session

Hold Fn, wait for the recording-ready cue, dictate and release to finish. For hands-free dictation, double-tap Fn; a fresh tap finishes.

Dictate into an open draft

Place the cursor in editable draft text and hold Fn. Releasing inserts the words and keeps the session open. Wait for Processing to finish before starting another burst.

Click Edit to stop speech and type, Dictate to continue hands-free, or the voice line to mute. Muting keeps screenshot and copied-text capture available. Finishing a session waits for accepted speech and captures.

Select a screenshot area

Double-tap Command, drag to select an area, then release. The screenshot joins your session and goes to the clipboard, even with automatic clipboard images turned off. Escape cancels. Choose entire-display capture instead in Settings → Capture.

Collect while you work

Enable the options you want in Settings → Capture. Hold Command and press C twice to add selected text during an open session. Automatic collection of every text copy is optional and off by default; clipboard images have a separate setting. Copying inside your Sesh draft does not capture the same content again. The guided practice has a dedicated sample you can capture.

Use saved screenshots

Choose the folder your screenshot tool uses and enable folder watching. Sesh adds new images saved there during a session. This does not change where your screenshot tool saves files. PNG, JPEG and HEIF images are supported. Folder watching is separate from automatic clipboard images.

Return to your comments

In a typed session, a new capture normally brings you back to the draft with space to add comments. Tap Command to return yourself. See the capture shortcuts.

Select, preview or remove

Use the arrow keys to select a screenshot or copied text. Consecutive cards select directly, without a typing cursor beside them. Command+Return or double-click previews a screenshot or edits copied text. Return inserts a typing line after selected captures; Shift+Return inserts before. Typing and pasting preserve selected captures. Backspace after a reference selects it first; press again to delete it. Undo restores deleted content.

Format copied text

Select the copied text, then choose a quote block, code block, inline quotation or inline code from its format menu. Or use Tab or Shift+Tab to change formats immediately. Command+Z undoes a change. Inline formats show line breaks as spaces. Switching back to a block restores the original layout. Select an inline reference to show its compact Format menu.

The menu also offers Restore original text and Convert to plain text. Conversion makes it ordinary draft text; Undo restores the reference. Escape leaves copied-text editing or clears a card selection before collapsing the draft.

Finished too soon?

Choose Reopen in Library or the Sesh menu to create an editable continuation. The completed session is preserved. Reopening does not undo anything already pasted into another app. While editing, use Undo to restore changes.

Something did not paste?

Find the session in Library and choose Copy. Switch to your destination and press Command+Control+V to paste that session again. Ordinary Command+V pastes clipboard text and local image paths.

Saving failed?

Keep Sesh open and copy your work before quitting.

Report a problem

Settings → Feedback & help can copy or save a report. Review what it includes, then email bram@sesh.be. Reports are not sent automatically.

Include your build, macOS version, destination app, steps and what you expected. Include only details you want to share.

This release adds in-app updates. Existing beta users need one manual install to get the updater; later compatible builds can update from inside Sesh.

1. Finish your session and quit Sesh.
2. Download the current beta from the homepage, open the DMG and replace the installed app. Keep one installed copy in Applications.
3. Open Sesh. Later, choose Check for Updates… in the Sesh menu, or turn on automatic checks in Settings → General. Sesh shows the version and short notes, then downloads and asks before installing.
4. Installation waits until your session, processing and pasting are finished. You can postpone and keep working. History, settings and downloaded speech models stay on your Mac.

Saved on your Mac

Sessions, screenshots, quotes and captured source details are stored in ~/.sesh/sessions. Settings → Library controls history retention and optional audio recording storage, which is off by default.

Deleting saved screenshots can break file paths in earlier pasted prompts. Removing the app does not remove saved sessions or speech-model caches. Recovery depends on what was successfully captured and saved.

Optional cloud cleanup

Text cleanup is off by default. With your own OpenRouter key, dictated text is sent through OpenRouter to Gemini. Audio, screenshots, quotes, source details and ordinary typed session text are excluded. The explicit cleanup preview sends the sample you enter.

Anything pasted into another app is handled by that app. Read the privacy policy for the full details.
